BRIAN NOBBS was one of the team who designed and built the Pottery Studio. On the opening of the Studio in 1971, he was also the Pottery Studio Manager until he left the Findhorn Community in 1972. Life took Brian in a very different direction upon leaving the Community, however he did return again for a brief period in the early nineteen eighties, when he worked as one of the Studio Potters. In 1990 Brian returned, this time to stay. At this time the Community was restructuring and Brian took on the Findhorn Pottery as a semi-independent business with a view of creating a sustainable business offering maximum creative opportunites as well as fostering the production of high quality ceramics in a variety of styles. In April 2005, he "semi" retired handing the Studio over to the now resident potter Belia Biesheuvel. He is also an accomplished painter (see Brian's website: www.briannobbs.com) and in his retirement Brian wants to spend more time painting. However, since his retirement with less responsibilities and more production time in the Studio, Brian has been enjoying the more time consuming handbuilding process of sculpting pots with themes from the spirit world and from the other realms. He continues to make thrown pots both domestic and decorative, inspired by the tradition established by Bernard Leach, after this ceramic legend's return from Japan.
